~technological singularity~

so i know i’m a little behind, but i recently watched the documentary “Transcendent Man” & it was freaking amazing. it’s about Ray Kurzweil’s ideas & it blew my mind & actually formed words for my thoughts. imagine human life being completely interconnected with computers & machines! he predicts that technology will outrun evolution and we will all live in virtual worlds not unlike Second Life! actually being able to change our form any time we feel like it & put ourselves anywhere we want at any time. not to mention, prolong our lives to the point of immortality & avoiding biological decay/death by reaching this technological singularity! i enjoyed immensely his thoughts & ideas. here’s a brief sum-up i found….
“Ray Kurzweil, an inventor and futurist that presents his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies, we will be trillions of times more intelligent and there will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. Human aging and illness will be reversed; world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death.”
here’s what wikipedia sums it up as….
“He proposes that the Law of Accelerating Returns—the exponential increase in the growth of information technology—will result in a “singularity”, a point where humanity and machines will merge, allowing one to transcend biological mortality: advances in genetics will provide the knowledge to reprogram biology, eliminate disease and stop the aging process; nanotechnology will keep humans healthy from the inside using robotic red blood cells and provide a human-computer interface within the brain; robotics, or artificial intelligence, will make superhuman intelligence possible, including the ability to back up the mind.”
of course, it raises many questions like this one…..”AI researcher Hugo de Garis warns of a coming “Artilect War”, where god-like artificial intellects and those who want to build them, will fight against those who don’t.”
it’s worth a watch & i think anyone who plays SL should look into it, as they talk a bit about the game in the movie & Philip Rosedale (the creator of Second Life, DUH!!!!) is in it. if nothing else, it gets one thinking. personally, i find it too exciting not to share. so open your mind & watch “Transcendent Man”, & check out the trailer i added ((^~^)) much <3 <3 <3 from The Wandering Faun
